St George’s School
"Let your light shine!"
Matthew (5:16)
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they might see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Our School Vision:
To create a caring, safe and inspiring learning community which values every child and adult as an individual, recognises their unique talents and supports and empowers them to fulfil their God given potential. We place an emphasis on emotional, social and physical wellbeing and the responsibility and connection we have to others. We want our children to leave us shining bright; feeling confident and enthusiastic about their future.
At St George's we encourage all children to let their light shine and to encourage the light in others. Our vision was chosen through discussions with children, staff, parents and governors. We felt our vision was one that would resonate with those of Christian faith, those of other faiths and those with no faith as symbolism of light is at the heart of many cultural and family traditions.
Above all, the book of Genesis begins as God creates light. Light thus acts as a basis from which all life will grow and thrive, just as our vision encourages children and adults to flourish.
Our Core Christian Values
Our ethos is based on our core Christian Values of Kindness, Thankfulness and Perseverance.
These values may be supported and shared by Christians and non-Christians alike. We learn in depth about our values in collective worship, through prayer and Bible stories. We actively apply them throughout all aspects of school life.
St George's Church Bourton
St George's
Our school is named after our local church, St George's Church, and as a school we value to close links we have with the church and it's community.
Clergy from the church (Reverand. Graham) visit school once a week to lead whole school worship, and the school regularly visit the church for worship, with all classes having the opportunity throughout the year to lead or take part in a church worship.
The Open the Book team is a highlight of our termly worships, where the children and adults dress up and act out stories from The Bible; bringing them to life and enabling everyone to reflect on the message and teachings of Jesus.
The Church of England Vision for Education
Church of England schools offer an education that is distinctively Christian. Although each church school will be unique, all church schools will share core values based on the Gospel values. Our church schools should therefore be places where loving God and loving our neighbours, is lived out in the daily life of the school.
All our Schools have the following ethos statement in their Instrument of Government.
“Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.
The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers all of its pupils”.
